Blinder, Kosenko book - Middle Game

Post  Admin on Sat Jul 06, 2013 11:28 am

You probably noticed that the first recommended book on the e-library list is Blinder, Kosenko - Middle Game.
The choice is well deserved, this book is filled with great analyses, it is easier to print being an original PDF manuscript than the other books available as scanned pictures.
The topic of the book is middle game, the crucial stage where understanding and superior skills prove one player better than the other.
Yes - one must know the openings to survive to the middle game, and one must know the endings to make the best out of the position - but to get the good position one must outsmart his opponent in the middle game.

One complain many players raise is that the book is written in Russian and obviously it is on Russian Checkers and not on Pool, thus some moves do not work.
To them I must say that there are very few Pool books available and that Russian material is by far the best to learn from.

The American players know that, many of them have Russian books, and some lucky ones have Latvian language Dambrete magazines of some 30 years ago.
No, they do not understand Latvian any better than they understand Russian - but guys - this is all the same checkers lanquage, all moves are recorded with the same algebraic chess notation, you may not understand what they are saying but most times the talk is not important, it is mostly "If he moves here I will move there" type, can be ignored. Other times they do draw conclusions and you want to hear them, do ask questions.

To help you along I took the book's first 9 positions and converted them to HTML (moving checkers) and translated comments to English.
Review the lesson and be sure to comment and ask questions - lessons should be interactive, and absense of responses shows no interest in more.
